Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves burning of mugwort (artemsia vulgaris), a small spongy herb that has been used for thousands of years to strengthen blood, stimulate flow of “qi” and maintain general health. Research has shown that this herb acts as an “emmenagogue”, increasing circulation to the pelvic area and uterus, stimulating menstruation, used for menstrual cramps and treating breach presentation births.
Generally, moxibustion is used on people with cold and or stagnant conditions. Moxa is believed to expel cold and warm the meridians, which leads to smoother flow of qi and blood.
